The Beloved of Brishabhanu’s Darling

The author of this prayer, Narayan Bhatta Goswami,
was a disciple of Sri Krishnadas Brahmachari, who
in turn was a disciple of Sri Gadadhar Pandit. Narayan
Bhatta Goswami lived for many years in Vraja.
He is said to have discovered the ancient deity of
Sriji and had her installed on top of Barshana hill.
He was a prolific writer and authored Bhakti-rasatarangini,
Vraja-bhakti-vilasa, Vraja-dipika, Vrajotsavacandrika,
Vraja-mahodadhi, Vrajotsava- hladini,
Brihad Vraja-gunotsava, Vraja-prakasa, Vraja-dipika,
Bhakta-bhushana-sandarbha, Vraja-sadhana-candrika,
Bhakti-viveka, Sahana-dipika, Rasika-hladini,
Premankura (drama), Ladili-lala Yugala Paddhati
and this Ladileyashtakam. Narayan Bhatta Goswami’s
samadhi is near Barshana in Uchagaon, the village
where Lalita Sakhi appeared.

“Ladili” literally means “darling”. It is a popular
name of Srimati Radharani in Vrindavan. In
this context, “Ladili” can mean “Brishabhanu’s
darling” or “the darling queen of Barshana”.

sarvanga-sundara-varam kati-pita-vastram
brahmadi-deva-muni-vandya-padaravindam
sri-ladileya-lalitam satatam bhajami

Accepting a form possessed of all beautiful limbs
and wearing a yellowish cloth around his waist, his
lotus feet are worshipped by all sages and demigods
headed by Lord Brahma. I constantly worship that
beloved of Vrishabhanu’s darling daughter.

tiryag-kirita-mukutam vana-malaya vai
samsobhamana-vapusham hasatekshanadhyam
dedipyamana-makarakriti-kundalam ca
sri-ladileya-lalitam satatam bhajami

On his head rests a curved helmet, his ears are
embellished with a pair of brilliantly glowing
shark-shaped earrings, his eyes are enhanced with
a smile, and his body is decorated with a garland
of forest flowers. I constantly worship that beloved
of Vrishabhanu’s darling daughter.

anamra-janu-yugalam vraja-bhumikayam
utthaya dakshina-karam sasarisripantam
padaravinda-yugale dhrita-nupuram ca
sri-ladileya-lalitam satatam bhajami

His lotus feet are decorated with a pair of anklets. He
crawls beautifully on the land of Vraja while using his
right hand to pull himself forward. I constantly worship
that beloved of Vrishabhanu’s darling daughter.

kaumara-darsita-sukham vapusha sva-pitror
balais ca kridana-param samudarayantam
mugdha-smitam nija-bhuje dhrita-modakam ca
sri-ladileya-lalitam satatam bhajami

He smilingly holds a sweet in his hands
and displays his unlimitedly magnanimous
playful pastimes of infancy, thus delighting his
parents. I constantly worship that beloved of
Vrishabhanu’s darling daughter.

srimad-balanujam ativa priya-svarupam
saukhya-pradam nija-janan atimanayantam
syamangam adbhutataram sumukham sunetram
sri-ladileya-lalitam satatam bhajami

The younger brother of Baladev has an immensely
wonderful form with complexion like a dark monsoon
cloud and beautiful lotus-like face and eyes. These
bestow great happiness on his kinsmen and earn him
a respected place amongst them. I constantly worship
that beloved of Vrishabhanu’s darling daughter.

subhru-nasam subhuja-danda-paraga-damam
drashtavya-rupam asitekshana-caru-hasam
kancya paranga-dhrita-hara-manoharantam
sri-ladileya-lalitam satatam bhajami

His well built arms appear to subdue the strength
of mountains. He displays a beautiful form having
blackish eyes, beautiful brows, perfect nose, and a
sweet smile. Around his waist is a strand of jewels
that steals one’s mind. I constantly worship that
beloved of Vrishabhanu’s darling daughter.

go-vatsa-khelana-param gala-maukti-haram
vamsi-dharam sughata-nritya-karam varam ca
gopi-griheshu nitaram navanita-cauram
sri-ladileya-lalitam satatam bhajami

Around his neck swings a necklace of pearls as
he exhibits his pastimes of playing with the calves.
He holds a flute in his hands and effortlessly
displays his dancing skill as well as his expertise
at regularly stealing butter from the homes of
the gopis. I constantly worship that beloved of
Vrishabhanu’s darling daughter.

dhyanaspadam jagati purnatamavataram
santam param nikhila-jiva-nikaya-ketum
lila-kadambam atilanghita-satru-vargam
sri-ladileya-lalitam satatam bhajami

He soundly defeated his enemies in his
multifarious pastimes. He is the Supreme Lord in the
most perfect form, the object of meditation for the
entire world, the sought-after shelter of the sages,
and the refuge of all souls. I constantly worship that
beloved of Vrishabhanu’s darling daughter.

slokashtakam hi sumukham sumuda sva-citte
sandhaya nityam amalam hari-bhaktidam ca
devalaye pathati tasya harih svayam ca
moksha-prado bhavati nunam adabhra-buddheh

A blissful soul of purified intelligence who in a
joyous state of mind fixes his attention constantly
upon these eight transcendental verses that bestow
devotional service to Lord Hari, or who recites it
in a temple of Lord Hari, will be rewarded by the
Lord personally coming and bestowing the gift of
liberation upon him.·

7. Damodar's unrivalled girlfriend, 8. The queen who bestows fame on the Kartika month, 9. The crestjewel of Mukunda's ladyfriends.

55. Whose ruby earrings are shaped like lotus buds, 56. Whose wagtail-like eyes are anointed with beautiful eyeliner, giving great joy to the eyes.

57. Whose nose, that is beautiful as a sesame flower, is adorned with a round pearl, 58. Whose forehead is adorned with beautiful tilak made of fresh musk.

59. Whose divine hairbraid is worshiped by peacock feathers (being defeated in beauty), 60. The arrows of Whose glances destroy the patience of Krishna, Who defeated the Canura wrestler.

73. She is the housewife in the caves in Govardhana, 74. She decorates the kunja, 75. She has a sisterly relationship with Yamuna, (Yamuna is the daughter of the sun and Radha is the
daughter of Vrsabhanu, the sun in Taurus).

76. She is adorned with the wreath of divine Kundalata's friendship, 77. She is the professor in amorous rapture, giving joy to the holder of Govardhana.

107. Who is the moonlike resting place for all the senses of the moon of Vraja (Shri Krishna), 108. The two syllables of Whose name Ra-dha madden all of Krishna's senses.

yo dhite parama pritya dinah katara-manasah
sa natham acirenaiva sa natham iksate dhruvam

Whoever recites these 108 names of Shri Radha, that consists of all beautiful, nectarean Radha-nama, with great love, humility and eagerness, will certainly and swiftly behold Her Master.

Unable to attain the kiss of Radha's lips, He, holding a mirror,meditates on Her reflection while pretending to look at His own shining cheek. That Gopala-raja is gracefully residing on top of Govardhana-Hill.

As if wishing to frighten off the bumble bee-like gopi girls,intoxicated by His transcendental glories,He wears on His forehead,which resembles a blue lotus,kunkuma tolaka which is like stationary lightening in a host of monsoon clouds.That Gopala-raja is gracefully residing on top of Govardhana Hill.

nayann-cala-cakorau bandhum utkah kisorau

Tying the youthfull cakora birds of Radha's eyes with the ropes of cupid in the form of His ears which are decorated with shark-shaped earrings,that are shining like moonlight.That Gopala-raja is gracefully residing on top of Govardhana Hill.

Having plunder the chastity of young gopis with the powerful solders of His restless glances,He keeps that treasure locked up in the place of His heart behind the great emerald door of His chest.That Gopala Raja is gracefully residing on the top of Govadhana Hill.

The threefolds of skin of His charming abdomen,flow into the sweet lake of His navel,from where a line of hairs like a snake rises to capture the fearful young gopi girls.That Gopal-raja is gracefully residing on top of Govardhana Hill.
Note-The young gopis are enchanted by Krishna's charms.Thus the example is of a snake capturing the mouse-like gopis who are afraid not of Krishna but of their husbands and superious.

His feet are two lotus flowers,His claves graceful,His knees,two small jewel boxes of conjugal pastimes.His body is adorned with variors gaements and ornaments and His voice is very sweet and melodious.That Gopala raja is gracefully residing on top of Govardhana-Hill.

His transcendental form which conquers the splendour and passion of hundreds of thousands of cupids is nourished by the the wonderful loving service of His pure devotee,Shri Vitthala.That Gopala -raja is gracefully residing on top of Govardhana Hill.
Note--Shri Vitthala is the name of the son of Vallabhacarya whom Raghunatha Das Goswami gave over the worship of Shri Gopala to.

sva-dayita-giri-kacche gavya-danartham uccaih
kapata-kalaha-kelim kurvator navya-yunoh
nija-jana-krita-darpaih phullator iksake smin
sarasi bhavatu vaso dana-nivartane nah
"At the foot of their favorite hill, the youthful couple pretend to quarrel over Krishna’s attempt to collect a tax on Radha’s milk-products. The arrogant joking words to Their friends causes Radha-Krishna to blossom with pride. May that Dana-Nivartana Kunda kindly allow me to reside on her banks."1

nibhrtam a jani yasmad dana-nirvrttir asmin
ata idam abhidhanam prapa yet tat sabhayam
rasa-vimukha-nigudhe tatra taj-jnaika-vedye
sarasi bhavatu vaso dana-nirvartane nah
"Shri Krishna enjoyed the tax pastime in a secluded place on the bank of this lake, thus it become known as Dana-nivartana -kunda. The truth of this lake remains hidden to person averse to the mellows of pure devotional service. May that Dana-nivartana kunda kindly allow me to reside on her banks."2

hima-kusama-suvasa-sphara-paniya- pure
rasa-parilasad-ali-salinor navya-yunoh
atula-salila-khela-labdha-saubhagya-phulle
sarasi bhavatu vaso dana-nivartane nah

" It is filled with cool water and fragrant flowers. It blossoms with good fortune attained from the peerless water pastime of the youthful couple and Their sweet friends. May that Dana-nivartana-kunda kindly allow me to reside on her banks "4

dara-viksaita-puspair vasetantar-dig-antah
khaga-madhupa-ninadair modita-prani-jatah
parita-upari yasya ksmaruha bhanti-tasmin
sarasi bhavatu vaso dana-nivartane nah

"It fill all directions with the sweet fragrance of newly blossomed flowers. Everyone becomes pleased by the singing of the birds and bees. It is surrounded by groves of splendid trees. May that Dana-nivartana-kunda kindly allow me to reside on her banks."5

nija-nija-nava-kunje gunji-rolamba-puje
pranayi-nava-sakhibhih sampravesya priyau tau
nirupama-nava-rangs tanyate yatra tasmin
sarasi bhavatu vaso dana-nivartane nah
" Accompanied by Their affectionate young friends, Radha-Krishna enter the nearby forest groves filled with newly blossoming flowers and humming bees and enjoy ever-fresh pastimes. May that Dana-nivartana-kunda allow me to reside on the bank of her."6

sphatika-samam atuccham yasya paniyam accham
khaga-na a-pasu-gobhih sampibantibhir uccaih
nija-jana-guna-vrdddhir labhyate drag amusmin
sarasi bhavatu vaso dana nivartane nah
"By deeply drinking its water, birds, animals, cows and humans at once attain all transcendental virtues. May that Dana-nivartana-kunda kindly allow me to reside on her banks."7


surabhi-madhura-sitam yat-payah praty-aham tah
sakhi-gana-parivito vyaharan payayan gah
svayam atha pibati shri-gopa-candro pi tasmin
sarasi bhavatu vaso dana-nivartane nah
"Every day, as He converses with His friends, the moon of the gopas makes the surabhi cows drink its sweet, aromatic and cool water, and when they have finished, He Himself drinks. May that Dana-nivartana-kunda kindly allow me to reside on her banks."8

pathari su-matir etad dana-nivartanakhyam
prathita-mahima-kundasyastamkam yo yatatma
sa ca niyata-nivasam susthu samlabhya kale
kalayati kila radha-krishnayor dana-lilam
"A self-controlled person who recites these eight verses glorifying Dana-nivartana-kunda will attain an eternal residence on her banks and directly witness the tax pastimes of Shri Shri Radha-Krishna."9
